Before I begin, be sure and see an opening slideshow down below my biography. Below that slide show is also a collection of galleries with photos in them. Click on one to see pictures I have taken!
I love traveling and photography....my two favorite hobbies. I bought my first 35 mm SLR in my senior year of high school, a Minolta XG-1. My first digital camera was a Canon G3 point-and-shoot which I bought to see how well digital worked. That was in 2003. I eventually bought a Nikon D70 in 2004, after I read the great reviews it had received.
Now, I shoot with a Nikon D600.
As a kid, my parents took us on several vacation trips, including a long trek out west with all 8 kids piled into our station wagon! We drove and made stops in various places, including Santa Fe, the Painted Desert, and the Grand Canyon. We eventually made our way out to Rancho Palos Verdes, California, where our Uncle John lives. While there, we also went to San Juan, Capistrano. On the way back east, we stopped in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I really liked the Rocky Mountains, as I still do like mountains.
Another big family trip we took as kids was out east, to see my Uncle George get married to Aunt Ann. We stopped for awhile in Cape Cod, and we spent a bit of time in Washington, D.C.
Once I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, I made my first trips on my own to places like Chicago and New York City. I made my first trip to Europe in 1986 where I met my sister Mary in Geneva, Switzerland. She had been spending her junior year in college in Besancon, France, near the Swiss border. We spent a week in Switzerland, riding the trains and visiting places like Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Lucern, Interlaaken, and Zermatt, now one of my favorite places. Zermatt is where the Matterhorn Mountain is, and I have been there 4 times.
Then we spent a week in Paris.
That was the first of some 16 vacations I have now taken to Europe. In addition, I once lived and worked in The Hague, The Netherlands for 4 years. I did much travelling during that period. Unfortunately, I have few digital pictures of my trips to Europe....most of my pictures, of which there are thousands, are film pictures. One day, I will have to scan these to put into digital format and post on line.
I have been to Canada a few times for business, in addition to a few times for fun. I've made a couple of trips to Montreal to see hockey games, and my brother Bob and I actually saw the last ice hockey game at the old Montreal Forum in March, 1996.
In February, 2009, my brother John and I made a trip to Belize, the first time either of us had ever been south of the U.S. border. We had a great time, and you can see some of the pictures on this SmugMug site.
In the past 6 years or so, I have also attended 7 photography workshops, mostly in the west. These include Death Valley, Cambria (halfway between L.A. and San Francisco), the Eastern Sierra Mountains outside of Bishop California, the Smoky Mountains, Kauai, Yosemite, and Bishop again. I will be posting many pictures from each of these trips.
And, speaking of Kauai, this is one of my all time favorite places. In the early 1990s, my company sent me there on 4 separate occasions, and I fell in love with the "garden isle." I have since been back 5 more times on my own, including the last time, on a photography workshop.
I also travel to a number of U.S. cities on a regular basis. I have siblings in the Washington D.C. area, outside of Memphis, and in the Chicago area. I have been to each of these locations many times and even lived in Chicago for a number of years....so I will be putting up many pictures from Washington DC, Memphis, and Chicago.
My brother Joe lived in New York City for many years, but he moved to Jupiter, Florida a couple of years ago. I haven't been to Jupiter, yet, but I have been to NYC a number of times.
Hope you enjoy my photos!
